Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia Magnum 2003

Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia Magnum

A very hot and dry growing season that produced a divisive wine: there are those who love how immediate it is while others consider it an uncharacteristic Sassicaia. After more than a decade what can be said is that this vintage did not live up to expectations. The color is a bold garnet and the bouquet is evolved, alcoholic and ethereal with notes of black cherry preserved in spirits, yellow peach and tamarind, making it similar to an Amarone. The mouthfeel is warm with tannins that are a bit overdrawn and ‘wrinkled’. The aftertaste is wrapping but a bit diluted.
