Gorgeously deep nose. Cello and kettle drums. Bitter marmalade. A stern spine with a copper-metal gleam, but there is richness and an intensity of Seville oranges that seems to have its own force field. This is a compelling storyteller. It tastes, in glimpses of moments, like a handful of ancient volcanic stones. In other moments like a whisper of sweetness. Quince. Fried sage leaves and lemon boiled sweets. Dried apricots dusted with ground cumin. Old gilt and then, on the finish, the scent of muscari. Very complex, very unusual – oxidative but not oxidised. A distinctive beauty.
