THE KREINBACHER ESTATE: The Estate was founded by József Kreinbacher who acquired the first vineyards at Somló in 2002. Since then, the replanting of the vines as well as the development of the viticulture and the estate have been continuous in order to create wines expressing the characters of the unique terroir. By now the estate covers 40 hectares and in addition to this, the team harvests grapes from another 20 hectares each year. It is 4-5 million years ago when the history of Nagy-Somló wine region started. That was the time when the lava erupted and the solidified basalt gradually emerged from the valley of the dried up, ancient see. The solid, resistant stones covering the mountain protected the alluvial subsoil from erosion and all the devastating forces of winds and rivers. This is why Somló is timeless and the monadnock bears the expressing Hungarian term ’witness mountain’. The highly mineral, slowly developing and concentrated wines of Somló also follow this heritage. They are famous for their longevity. The plots of Kreinbacher under the basalt monoliths enjoy perfect aspect. The main grape varieties are Juhfark, Furmint, Welshriesling and Hárslevelű. Syrah has also gained recognition among traditional local grapes thanks to the dedicated work of the team. Besides the winemaker György Várszegi and the vintner Dániel Molnár, an international consultant Stefano Dini helps the team to explore the region’s secrets. BASALT PAVED ROAD TO THE FUTURE: 2011 represents a remarkable milestone, the year when the new central winery and sparkling wine cellars were completed. In 2014 Kreinbacher Estate introduces the very first sparkling wines elaborated here that open a new chapter in the history of the Mountain. After many years of cooperation and the reveal of our first sparkling wines I feel even more committed to build the future of Somló’s sparkling wines. Along the way – together with the Kreinbacher Estate – we can both follow the traditions of Champagne and exploit the characteristics of this incomparable region. SPARKLING WINES - WHAT FUTUR CLASSIQUE MEANS: Futur Classique identifies the core of Kreinbacher sparkling wines, the principles and the goal we follow. It is the frame for all of our methods, rules and the underlying philosophy. At the same time it highlights the substance of the know-how we build during the elaboration of our wines – the knowledge that will always manifest in each and every drop of our effervescent wines. KNOWLEDGE AND TERROIR: We are proud to apply all the experience we gathered so far in vinification and winemaking. Since the very first years we have already learned a lot about vine and elaboration, about Somló and Furmint. Still, we are eager to know more. MÉTHODE TRADITIONNELLE: Christian Forget, the cellar master from Champagne contributes to our team via teaching all the nuances of Méthode Traditionnelle. While making our bottle fermented sparkling wines we are grateful to access to the centuries old tradition of the world famous wine region, Champagne. TIMELESS VALUE: Time reigns in our cellars. Bottle ageing takes 24-36 months, but at least twice as long as 9 months, the minimum legal length required for a quality sparkling wine. While this period may even be extended, curtail can never be an option. PRECISION: During the complex process of sparkling wine making every detail deserves full attention. This is why we use Coquard presses alike the ones in Champagne. This is why we take special care of the right temperature in the cellars where our wines are fermented and aged. And this is exactly why modern technology is a must have. FURMINT: The emblematic grape variety of Somló plays an unconventional rule this time. Our goal is to create neutral base wines in reductive style that are sophisticated enough to complete their destiny. Therefore we harvest from the coolest, eastern slopes of Somló while precisely timing all the key steps and let only perfect, completely healthy bunches arrive at our winery. STYLE AND BALANCE: Each Kreinbacher sparkling wine is completed by setting the right dosage (sugar level) after the decision of the tasting panel. From Brut Nature to Brut and Extra Dry, all types of our sparkling wines are meant to achieve a refined balance. The team and Christian Forget, our consultant cellar master from Champagne Paul Bara take this challenge together year after year. FUTUR CLASSIQUE DESIGN: The symbols of Kreinbacher sparkling wines, the snowdrop and the Hungarian hussar’s cut express our respect to Somló and our national heritage. THE COURIER: The snowdrop motif of Kreinbacher sparkling wines is inspired by the autochton, symbolic flower. Under the basalt rocks snowdrops open first after the winter season announcing spring. And so does Kreinbacher forerun the future of Somló sparkling wines. THE BRAVADO: The theme hussar cut symbolizes the creative, sometimes unexpected and daring solutions of the Hungarians. This is exactly the epigraph we followed when producing our first sparkling wines. The dinamysm of the sabrage motive evokes the dissymmetry of the labels and the futuristic winery buildings, as well. The cut runs in full length of the label, thus letting the wine coming to the fore. This reminds us to always put the values we respect into the limelight.
